Planetary Gears

Planetary gears or "Epicyclic" gearings are a well known type of transmissions that are used in industrial applications that require high torque or a certain speed.
Such gear sets are mostly used in applications such as :

This type of gear is composed of :

• a sun gear
• one or multiple planetary pinions
• a planetary carrier that carries the planetary pinions
• a ring gear

The planetary gear sets has a self-centering capability that is reducing many effects of manufacturing errors.

Today, planetary gears are one of the topics of researches since this type of gear needs many improvements to  reduce vibration and noise while keeping optimal compactness, efficiency and cost of production.
